INSTALLATION

Guides, demonstrations, and technical resources for installing the STONETILE system.

Straightforward from the first panel.

The STONETILE system is mechanically fastened rather than mortar-set, which changes what installation actually requires: less specialized labor, fewer weather restrictions, and a shorter path from first panel to finished wall.

System Advantages

Installation Benefits

Mechanically Fastened

Panels are mechanically fastened to the wall through embedded galvanized steel hangers, without a mortar bed or masonry trade skills.

Integrated Rainscreen

Every panel includes a 10 mm rainscreen cavity built in, removing extra steps from the wall assembly.

Year-Round Install Potential

Because the system isn't dependent on a mortar bed, installation can continue in conditions that would restrict or delay conventional mortar-based masonry.

Multiple Substrate Compatibility

STONETILE can be incorporated into wall assemblies over wood framing, steel framing, concrete or CMU, and girt systems.

Installation FAQ

Common installation questions.

For the full FAQ library, including product, performance, and purchasing questions, visit the FAQ page.

What substrates can STONETILE be installed over?

STONETILE can be incorporated into wall assemblies using wood framing, steel framing, concrete or CMU, and girt systems. Substrate preparation and fastening requirements vary by assembly, so the applicable installation and construction details should be reviewed for each project.

What sheathing is required for wood-framed installation?

Current STONETILE Quick Start guidance calls for secure plywood or OSB sheathing with a minimum thickness of 3/8 inch, together with the weather barrier, flashing, and waterproofing required by code and the project wall assembly.

How are STONETILE panels cut?

Panels may be wet-cut or dry-cut using a diamond blade. Appropriate dust-control practices and personal protective equipment should be used, and exposed cut edges should be finished as required by the installation instructions.

How are the joints between STONETILE panels finished?

Joints are sealed with the polyurethane sealant specified by STONETILE and finished with mineral sand while the sealant is wet to create the required textured finish. Refer to current STONETILE technical documentation for sealant requirements.

Can homeowners install STONETILE themselves?

Yes. STONETILE's mechanically fastened system doesn't require mortar-trade skills, and many homeowners install it themselves using the Quick Start Installation Guide above, or by contacting STONETILE directly for additional support.
